The Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival returns to Lopez Center on Monday, August 14, with Mystical Winds, a program of perfect musical moments curated by Artistic Director Aloysia Friedmann. Now in its 26th year, the Festival has included Lopez Island as a venue for the past 11 years. August 14th will see the Northwest Premiere of a new work by composer Caroline Shaw. "Microfictions, Vol.1" was written for the Miró Quartet who will perform it on the Lopez Center stage following Ms. Shaw's pre-performance talk to introduce the piece. In addition to Caroline Shaw, Aloysia Friedmann (violin/viola) and the Miró Quartet, Lopez will welcome pianist Jon Kimura Parker, Sandy Hughes (flute), Yura Lee (violin), and Annamarie Wellems (cello). Lopez welcomes the return of the musicians of the Miró Quartet, pictured above left to right: John Largess, viola; Will Fedkenheuer, violin; Daniel Ching, violin; and Joshua Gindele, cello. To learn more about any of these musicians please visit the OICMF on Lopez booth at the Lopez Farmers Market between Jun 17 and August 12. Also on the program are works by composers Claude Debussy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Felix Mendelssohn. A Wine Bar follows the concert on the outdoor veranda, with appetizers prepared by Island Grazing Tables. Youth tickets (ages 18 and under) are generously sponsored by Sunset Builders Supply, reserve through lopez@oicmf.org. All other tickets are sold online only through oicmf.org; no tickets will be sold at the door.
