At 6:30 join us in the main hall for a remarkable presentation by Ann Vandervelde and Peter Cavanagh.

Ann Vandervelde and Peter Cavanagh have been fixtures on the Lopez art scene for 15 years of their 44-year marriage, opening their studios for the annual Labor Day studio tours. In back-to-back presentations, they will trace the origins of their artistic endeavors and showcase their latest work.

Ann was a commercial graphic illustrator for several years after graduating in Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin. Her artistic output during that period included delicate botanicals in pencil and watercolor. She also drew a series of cartoons for one of Peter’s early books. This was followed by a journey towards abstraction, and it is that evolution which will be the focus of her presentation.

After a career in academia as a biomechanics professor, Peter became consumed by photographing and understanding the flight of birds. His journey has taken him and his camera to all seven continents and has resulted in two books. He will present images, stories, diagrams, and give a reading from his latest book “HOW BIRDS FLY: The Science and Art of Avian Flight” and promises to reveal some of the mysteries of bird flight.

Lopez Bookshop will be selling Peter's new book during this event!
