Please join us in a special viewing of A DREAM TAKES FLIGHT.
The film tells a bit about Lopez Island born & raised John Norman who built his first airworthy airplane on Lopez Island in the early 1980's.
John went on to eventually build the most authentically accurate replica of the "Spirit of St. Louis" that has ever been built (to date). That plane, flown by Charles Lindbergh from New York to Paris in May 1927, has become an icon that represents a turning point in aviation history which has led to aviation as we know it today.
Once John's replica was ready to fly, he engaged the services of his former Lopez Island teacher and aeronautics instructor, Jim Higginson to serve as the "Chase Plane" pilot responsible for communications between the Spirit replica and other planes in the air during flight.
He also reached out to a Lopez Island excavation contractor and well qualified pilot, Ron Fowler to fly the Spirt of St. Louis replica; an airplane with no windshield, no brakes, no starter, no fuel gauges, and no radios!
Many residents of Lopez Island were aware of the progress of John's project over the years and in June of last year, TEAM SPIRIT brought the replica to Lopez Island during the filming of this documentary about building and flying the iconic aircraft.
A few Lopez Island residents were interviewed at the airport that day while many, many more had an opportunity to get "up close and personal" with the airplane to learn all they could about the airplane.
As members of the "cast" at the airport that day, we invite the residents of Lopez Island to join us for a "Cast & Crew" screening of John & Heather Norman's documentary film, "A DREAM TAKES FLIGHT".
If you would like to learn more about John, the airplane and some of John's other projects, please visit our website.
